After the initial few months of adapting to the post-pandemic new normal and taking his performances and classes online, acclaimed violinist Manoj George has been a busy man. But none of that could match the thrill of playing to a live audience, he says. “It was only in November that I did a show for a live audience; it was for a small gathering and I was playing solo.
Last weekend, though, I not only got to perform to a 200-odd strong crowd, but also took my first flight in more than a year. My band members and I were invited to play at Bollywood actor
Harman Baweja’s nuptials,” he says. For the gig, Manoj had to fly to Kolkata. “I had to furnish a COVID negative certificate at the airport. The safety measures followed were truly impressive, which continued all the way to the wedding venue too, where the band and I kept our masks on and frequently sanitised until moments before the actual performance. Interestingly, the couple’s choice of music for the event was more western,” says Manoj.
